The Atlantic Coast Conference has officially endorsed Duke University's groundbreaking television agreement with Amazon, allowing the Blue Devils to stream three men's basketball games exclusively on Prime Video during the 2026-27 season. The deal, first announced last month, marks a significant shift in how college sports content is distributed, moving a portion of a major program's schedule away from traditional broadcast networks.
Under the arrangement, Amazon's streaming service will be the sole home for three Duke home games, bypassing the ACC's existing media rights partners. The conference's approval signals a willingness to experiment with direct-to-consumer platforms, potentially opening the door for other member schools to pursue similar partnerships. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but industry analysts expect the deal to set a precedent for future negotiations between universities and tech companies.
The move comes as streaming services aggressively compete for live sports rights, seeking to attract subscribers with exclusive content. Duke, a perennial basketball powerhouse with a massive national following, provides Amazon with a high-profile entry point into college athletics. For the ACC, the arrangement allows the conference to test new revenue streams while keeping its core broadcast commitments intact. The three games will be produced by Amazon's sports division, which has already handled NFL Thursday Night Football and other live events.
