Buffalo Bills Suffer First Loss as Late Mistakes Cost Them in New England

October 5, 2026 - 01:26

The Buffalo Bills are no longer undefeated. A 29-26 loss to the New England Patriots ended their perfect start, and the finish left little room for moral victories.

Josh Allen threw a late interception that killed Buffalo's final chance to win. The defense could not hold up its end either, allowing New England to march down the field on the deciding drive. What had been a steady, confident team through the first several weeks suddenly looked vulnerable in the closing minutes.

The defeat overshadowed several strong individual showings. Allen set records in the game, continuing a season that has put him in rare statistical territory. Rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman delivered the best performance of his young career, making contested catches and giving the offense a reliable target when it needed one.

Those bright spots will not erase the sting of a division loss. Buffalo now has to correct its late-game execution before the schedule gets harder. The Patriots exposed flaws that winning had masked, and the Bills leave with their first blemish of the year.
