KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop took the podium at SEC media days on Wednesday and laid out a confident vision for the Volunteers' offense heading into the 2026 campaign. With a mix of returning talent and new faces in key positions, Bishop believes the unit has the potential to be one of the most explosive in the conference.
"We have a lot of guys who can make plays in space," Bishop said. "The scheme is built to get the ball to playmakers, and I think we have the depth to keep defenses on their heels for four quarters."
Bishop, who emerged as a reliable option in the backfield last season, highlighted the chemistry developing between the offensive line and the skill positions. He pointed to spring practices as a key period where the team ironed out timing issues and built trust. "The line is getting better every day. When they give us a crease, we have to hit it hard. That's the mindset."
When asked about the quarterback competition, Bishop kept his comments general but positive. "Whoever is back there, we believe in them. They know the system, and they can make all the throws. Our job as backs is to take pressure off and keep the chains moving."
The Volunteers are coming off a season that showed flashes of brilliance but also inconsistency. Bishop acknowledged that the offense needs to cut down on self-inflicted mistakes. "Turnovers and penalties killed us in some games. If we clean that up, we can score with anyone."
With the 2026 season still months away, Bishop's message was clear: Tennessee is hungry and ready to prove its offense can be a force in the SEC.
