The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off their sixth training camp under head coach Nick Sirianni this week, but the biggest story has nothing to do with a new playbook or a roster battle. General Manager Howie Roseman revealed that basketball superstar LeBron James has a standing, open invitation to join the team for a practice session.
Speaking to reporters after the first day of camp, Roseman confirmed the offer is genuine and long-standing. He noted that James, a known football fan and part-owner of the Boston Red Sox, has always expressed respect for the physicality and preparation of the NFL. Roseman joked that if the 39-year-old Lakers forward ever wants to see what it feels like to take a handoff from Jalen Hurts or run a route against Darius Slay, the Eagles' facility doors are wide open.
The invitation has sparked immediate buzz among fans and players alike. Some veterans laughed at the idea of James lining up at tight end, while others pointed out his legendary work ethic would fit right in. Roseman did not specify if James has responded, but he made it clear the offer is not a publicity stunt. "If LeBron wants to come out here and compete, we would welcome him," Roseman said. "He is one of the greatest athletes of all time. Why would we say no?"
For now, the Eagles remain focused on preparing for the upcoming season. But the possibility of a four-time NBA champion running routes in midnight green has given training camp an unexpected dose of star power.
