Davante Adams has long been considered one of the most technically precise route runners in the NFL, a receiver whose separation came from footwork and timing rather than raw speed. But this season, the numbers tell a different story. Through the first half of the year, his yards per route run have dipped to a career low outside of his injury-shortened 2022 campaign. The question being asked around league circles is whether the 31-year-old has finally hit the proverbial wall, or if his struggles are a symptom of a broken offensive system.

The "wall" theory is tempting. Wide receivers often decline sharply after turning 30, and Adams has logged a heavy workload of targets and deep routes over the past decade.
