The City Section high school baseball playoffs continued Saturday with a full slate of action across multiple divisions, setting the stage for the semifinal round later this week.
In the Open Division, top-seeded Granada Hills survived a tight contest against Birmingham, winning 4-2 behind a strong pitching performance and timely hitting in the middle innings. The Highlanders will now host the semifinals on Tuesday. Meanwhile, No. 2 seed San Pedro cruised past El Camino Real, 7-1, using a five-run fourth inning to break the game open. The Pirates will also be at home for their semifinal matchup.
The Division I bracket saw several upsets. Fourth-seeded Cleveland fell to Garfield, 6-5, in a back-and-forth game that ended on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. Garfield will travel to top-seeded Chatsworth on Tuesday. In the other half of the bracket, No. 3 Narbonne shut out Westchester, 3-0, and will host No. 7 Eagle Rock, which defeated Reseda 8-4.
Division II and III games also took place Saturday, with lower seeds advancing in a few cases. The semifinal round is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at the home fields of the higher seeds. The championship games are set for the following week at neutral sites, with dates and locations to be announced by the City Section office. Teams are advised to check official communications for any weather-related changes.
