SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The football journey of Dorsey Levens started on the grass at Sherman Park in Syracuse. That path reached a new milestone on Thursday when Nottingham High School dedicated its athletic field as Herbert Dorsey Levens Field.
Levens earned New York State player of the year honors in 1988. He wrapped up his high school career with more than 3,100 rushing yards, a mark that still stands among the best in the region. His performance at Nottingham opened the door to a college career at Georgia Tech and later a long run in the NFL, where he won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers.
The naming ceremony brought together former teammates, coaches, and family members who watched Levens develop from a local standout into a professional running back. School officials said the field will serve as a reminder of what dedication and hard work can produce.
Levens thanked the community for supporting him from his earliest days in youth football through his time at Nottingham. He said the honor belongs as much to the people who helped him along the way as it does to him.
