Tarasov Gets Detroit’s Net Again as the Road Trip Opens

The Detroit Red Wings will start Daniil Tarasov in net Tuesday night as they begin a four-game road trip, coach Todd McLellan confirmed. It marks a return to the crease for Tarasov, who has split time with the club's other goaltenders during a crowded stretch of the schedule.

McLellan's decision signals confidence in the 24-year-old Russian netminder, who has shown flashes of steady play despite limited appearances. The road trip, which spans four games in several cities, will test Detroit's depth and goaltending rotation as the team looks to string together results away from home.

Tarasov's start comes at a point in the season when every point matters in a tight playoff race. The Red Wings have leaned on multiple goaltenders, and McLellan has stressed the importance of keeping both options sharp. Handing Tarasov the opening game of the trip suggests the coaching staff wants to ride momentum and evaluate his readiness for a heavier workload.

Detroit players have spoken about the need to tighten up defensively in front of their goaltenders, especially on the road where matchups can be tougher. A strong outing from Tarasov could set the tone for the entire trip and give McLellan more flexibility in how he manages the crease going forward.
