PARIS (AP) - France has placed emergency services and military units on standby for wildfires, while also limiting public drinking and scrapping certain outdoor sports events as a severe heat wave spreads across parts of Europe. The measures come as temperatures climb well above seasonal norms, raising concerns about public health and fire risks in several regions.

Local authorities in affected areas have banned the sale and consumption of alcohol in public spaces, a move aimed at reducing heat-related incidents and risky behavior.
