The next ten days offer a packed schedule for outdoor enthusiasts, college athletes, and high school teams across the region. From youth soccer tournaments to college baseball series, here is a look at what is happening.
Friday, May 8
The city parks department opens registration for summer adult softball leagues. Teams can sign up online through May 15. The season begins June 1.
Saturday, May 9
The annual River Run 5K and 10K takes place at Riverside Park. Check-in starts at 7 a.m., with the race beginning at 8 a.m. Proceeds benefit the local youth track club.
Sunday, May 10
The state college baseball team hosts a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at University Field. The opponent is a conference rival. Admission is free for students with ID.
Monday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 13
High school girls golf regionals are scheduled at three local courses. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. each day. The top three teams advance to the state tournament.
Thursday, May 14
The community center offers a free pickleball clinic for beginners from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Equipment is provided. No registration required.
Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17
The regional youth soccer championship takes place at the sports complex. Games start at 9 a.m. each day. Twelve teams from four counties compete for the title.
Also this weekend, the college track and field team competes in the conference championships. Events run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
